CELLULAR IOT MVNOS TO MANAGE OVER 650 MILLION CONNECTIONS BY 2025.
AERIS, KORE WIRELESS AND AIRLINQ SERVICES LEAD MARKET SHARE: KALEIDO INTELLIGENCE.
KALEIDO’S 2020 IOT MVNO TRACKER PREDICTS 32% CAGR IN CONNECTION GROWTH BETWEEN 2020-2025 AS CONNECTIVITY MANAGEMENT & VAS REVENUES APPROACH $17 BILLION IN 2025.
London, August 24th, 2020 – Kaleido Intelligence, a leading roaming market intelligence and consulting firm, has published its latest IoT MVNO Tracker & Competitive Intelligence report, providing the most up-to-date analysis on the historical and predicted future evolution of the cellular IoT market for MVNOs.
The IoT MVNO Tracker: Connectivity & VAS 2020 research found that the IoT MVNO market is set to see a healthy growth of 32% CAGR in connections over the next 5 years. This is due in part to the impact of COVID-19 driving new connectivity demand across logistics, enterprise and asset tracking use cases, while IoT MVNOs’ expertise in eSIM provisioning will undoubtedly play a key role in their success.
Aeris, KORE Wireless and Airlinq Leading the Market
The tracker has found that the global IoT MVNO market is dominated by 10 connectivity providers, with Aeris, KORE Wireless and Airlinq accounting for 29% of global IoT MVNO connections in 2020.
Leading vendors in the tracker were found to specialise in one or more IoT verticals including automotive, public transport, fleet telematics, shipping and industrial telematics, albeit to varying degrees of depth over and above connectivity and device management offerings. These specialisations put them in a strong position towards 2025, although innovative players such as Twilio, and larger telco incumbents such as Nokia (WING) and Tata Communications are forecast to see strong growth across the projection period.
Significant Revenues Ahead, But MVNOs Must Establish Strategic Direction
Kaleido predicted that the IoT MVNOs will see their CMP (Connectivity Management Platform) and VAS (Value-Added Services) revenues will reach $17 billion in 2025, growing at an average annual growth rate of 27%.
However, the research cautioned that the role of the IoT MVNO is likely to shift into the medium-term as MNOs with broad reach and high capital increasingly focus on IoT, making strategic planning essential.
Steffen Sorrell, Chief of Research at Kaleido Intelligence added: “IoT MVNOs are typically agile, not averse to partnerships and are able to offer a superior global footprint for IoT deployments. This puts them in a prime position to act as cellular IoT gatekeepers, although it will be critical to find the appropriate niche in this crowded market.”
The research has analysed 26 leading IoT MVNOs offering CMP & VAS. It includes an in-depth evaluation of vendor performance across 12 verticals, including connections, ARPC (Average Revenue per Connection), eSIM connections, data consumption and revenues derived from CMP service and VAS.
